The Technical Director of the Organizing Committee for the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games, Héctor Figueroa, recently participated in the annual assembly of the Pan-American Sports Organization (PSO) held in Guadalajara, Mexico, to present a report on the current situation of the Mayagüez 2010 Games. For four days, Figueroa, along with the President of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO), Héctor Cardona and professor Héctor Cintrón, President of the CACSO Technical Division, offered details regarding the preparations for the Games that will be held on the western region of Puerto Rico from July 17 through August 1, 2010.
“We were invited by President Mario Vázquez-Raña for the purpose of reporting on the general status of the Mayagüez Games at present. We are referring to the facilities, the village, the regulation of each sport, food, transportation, in short, all of the operations of the Games and what is left to be done,” Figueroa stated.
He also added that they met with the presidents of the Pan-American Sports Federations to discuss details regarding the events that will be held in Puerto Rico. “We discussed specific situations regarding the facilities for each sport and clarified issues related to the technical manual and the calendar,” he stated. He indicated that the meetings were very productive because the presidents of the federations are the persons in charge of governing in the championships of each sport in the 2010 Mayagüez Games.
Additionally, the Puerto Rico delegation was present in the selection of the host of the next Pan-American Games, which will be held in Toronto, Canada, in 2015 represented by the President and the General Secretary of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (PROC), David Bernier and Carlos Beltrán, respectively.
PSO is an organization that brings together 42 American National Olympic Committees, among which are the 32 countries that make up CACSO. The 2011 Pan American Games will be in Guadalajara, México.
