Representatives from Mayagüez 2010 and the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization recently visited Guyana where rugby will be played as part of the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games. This sport was recently accepted in the Olympic Program.
Kit Nascimiento, designated Chair of the Guyana Coordinating Committee, presided over the meeting in which the agreement was signed to officialize Guyana as co-host. Guyana is located in the North of South America. Tom Jones, General Director of the International Rugby Board (IRB) in North America, and Juman Yassin, President of the Guyana National Olympic Committee signed the agreement.
During the visit, professor Luis Padovani, member of the Mayagüez 2010 Organizing Committee and Keith Joseph, representative of CACSO, met with the local organizers and the General Director of the IRB. “The meeting was a success,” Joseph indicated.
Rugby will be played from July 24 through 26, 2010 in the Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana.
