“Organization Committee Mayagüez 2010 reacts and clarifies the condoms’ topic in the Central American Villa”
Mayagüez, Puerto Rico (July 29, 2010)– The Organization Committee Mayagüez 2010 clarifies in a press release that the expressions emitted by Nelson Velez, Governor of the Central American Villa, in the matter of the information provided yesterday about the topic of the condoms quantity and waste found in the sewers of the Villa.
Yesterday, Velez responded a question made from a media of the radio where it was asked about the quantity of the waste found in the residence zone of the athletes, which caused various toilets to be clogged. “The news was exaggerated out of proportion in the real “quantity” of condoms. In the waste, plastic bottles, rolls of toilet paper, plastic bags, feminine hygiene products and some condoms, among others,” said Velez.
Our Organization Committee has worked very hard in the duration of these Games and thanks to God that we have achieved that every work area worked as planned. Like in the Project, last minute contingencies have arisen in which we have resolved immediately. It is essential to highlight the effort and commitment of all our working staff and of all our volunteers,” said Felipe Pérez-Grajales, President of the Mayagüez 2010 Organization Committee.
On his behalf, Velez said that “we hope that the information offered through this message will clarify this topic. There will be no further comments added.”
