BASEBALL
First appearance in the Central American and Caribbean Games: 1926

Baseball is a bat and ball game the origin of which dates back to Ancient Egypt, before the modern form arrived, which was developed specially in the United States in the 19th Century. Games are played by two teams of nine players who alternate defense (throwing the ball) and offense (striking the ball with the bat). Each game inning, the offensive team tries to score points and is forced to defend when three of its team members are eliminated. The objective is to score the most points during a game, which lasts nine innings. In the event of a tie, the game continues until there is a winner. A point is scored when a player reaches the main, or home, base, after passing the first, second, and third bases, which are placed in a field in the shape of a diamond.
