Artistic Gymnastics: One of the sports that appeals the most to the public in the Pan American Games is artistic gymnastics. Practiced since ancient times at the latest, the sport achieved its modern format through the work of German professor Friedrick Ludwig Jahn, who created rules and equipment and opened the first gymnastics camp in Berlin in 1811. In artistic gymnastics, the competition can be individual or in teams, it is open to men, who compete in five types of competition (vault, pommel horse, still rings, high bar, parallel bars and floor exercise); and to women, who compete in four types of competition (vault, balance beam, uneven bars, and floor exercise). The purpose is to obtain the highest score in the evaluation of the judges, who evaluate the degree of difficulty of the movements and the performance. To obtain extra points, the gymnast must add other elements besides mandatory elements for all events.
