JUDO
First appearance in the Central American and Caribbean Games: 1986

Created by Jigoro Kano in 1882, in Japan, as a combination of other martial arts, judo was one of the first sports to be incorporated into the program of the Pan American Games (in San Pablo-63), before appearing in the program of the Olympic Games (in Tokio-64). Basically, the technique in judo consists in using the strength of the opponent to take him down. Feet or hand hits are not allowed and matches last five minutes. It is possible to win judo matches in different ways, depending on the blows struck or offenses applied, but the most direct way to achieve victory is through the ippon, the perfect blow, in which the adversary falls on his back against the tatami or is immobilized for 25 seconds.
