WRESTLING
First appearance in the Central American and Caribbean Games: 1970
Olympic wrestling is considered one of the oldest sports in the history of the human race. In the Olympic Games in Ancient Greece, wrestling in the current greco-roman style was already being held. There are two types of bouts, which are divided in turn into eight categories. Greco-Roman wrestling differs from freestyle in one simple aspect: in the former, only the arms and the torso may be used, whereas in the latter, use of legs is allowed. But in both the objective is to immobilize the adversary with the adversary’s back against the floor.Low blows, strangulation, putting fingers in the eyes and pulling hair are prohibited. Bouts take place in two three-minute rounds. If neither of the athletes is able to immobilize his or her opponent, the bout is decided by points, which vary according to the throws and holds applied.
