ARCHERY
First appearance in the Central American and Caribbean Games: 1982
The practice of shooting bows dates back to prehistory, when the bow and arrow were first used as tools for hunting. This event is so old that the first known competition was held in 1583, in England. Archery is played in two categories, individual and by teams, at a distance of 70 m from the target, which has 1.22 m in diameter and is composed of 10 concentric circles. The innermost circle, the fly, is worth ten points and each following circle loses one point. In order to win, the competitor must add up the most points. It is a qualifying competition and, during each stage, the athlete shoots 36 arrows, six rounds of six arrows within four minutes each.
