Modern Pentathlon
First appearance in the Central American and Caribbean Games: 2002
An Olympic sport discipline established by Baron Pierre de Coubertain, creator of the Modern Olympic Games, in the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games. Modern pentathlon is based on the experiences of an officer of the French army, including five events which must be held within one day: pistol shooting, fencing, free 200-meter swimming, obstacle equestrian jump and cross-country running. Each of the first four events awards points to the athlete, according to his or her performance.
