Rugby
First appearance in the Central American and Caribbean Games: 2010

During the last century, the most popular sport in schools in England was soccer. Soccer was practiced in most schools in Great Britain, although it was played in many different ways because the interpretation of the rules was very diverse, since they were applied according to individual convenience. In 1823, during a soccer game practice in one of the schools of the city of Rugby in England, a student decided to grab the ball with his hands and run toward the opponent’s goal. The opponents’ reaction was to try to take him down, thereby creating the first game situation that would later be called Rugby Football. The rules of Rugby as a sport gradually evolved and its practice spread like wildfire. Rugby’s popularity grew in such a way throughout the entire United Kingdom that in 1880 the International Rugby Board was founded, represented by the countries of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.Nowadays, Rugby is practiced in the entire world; in many countries it is the national sport and in many others it shares its popularity with soccer.
