CYCLING (M)
First appearance in the Central American and Caribbean Games: 1938
The Bicycle was already a means of transportation from the 18th Century, but it was in 1895, when the International Cycling Union (UCI) was created, that cycling was organized as a sport. In the XV Pan American Games in RIO 2007, the sport will have four versions for men and women: track, race, mountain bike and BMX. The one with the most types of competitions is track cycling, which was ten different types of competitions: individual and team, sprint, time trial and pursuit. In road cycling, there are two types of competition: race and time trial; in mountain biking there is only one, cross-country, usually in a wooded area, on thin paths made of soil and rock. In BMX, the cycling version of the motocross, which was included in the Peking 2008 Olympic Games, there will be female and male competitions in tracks with jumps and obstacles.
